About Tony Your instructor Tony Romero was born and raised in Durango. He is a Husband, married to Amy Romero, Father and Grandfather. Tony served in the U.S. Army for ten years first as an infantry squad leader with A co 4/22 Infantry 25th Infantry Division. While in the Infantry Tony qualified expert in shooting and proficient in many types of weapons from pistol, rifle, machine gun, and anti-tank missiles such as the LAW rocket system and the Dragon (guided missile) system. During his tour in the infantry Tony also qualified expert with hand grenades and the M203 Grenade system. Tony was also qualified as a parachutist and earned the Army’s coveted Expert Infantry Badge. After his first tour Tony re-enlisted for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (the Bomb Squad). Tony Proudly served with the 74th EOD detachment Ft. Riley KS. Upon graduating from EOD School Tony joined his unit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, during Operation Desert Storm. Tony duties included the safe disposal of unserviceable ammunition and explosives, protection of VIPs to include the Secretary of State and other high level dignitaries, and the render safe of IED’s (or homemade bombs). Upon return from the Gulf war Tony continued his EOD career at Ft. Riley KS. where he supported the Secret Service in protection of the President of the United States and other dignitaries. Tony’s mission as an EOD tech continued as well. Tony was fortunate enough to be selected to attend EOD specialized Marksmanship course at Ft. Benning Ga and qualified Expert with the .50 cal. Barrett Sniper rifle. After 10 years of military service, Tony returned to Durango and became a deputy with the La Plata County Sheriff’s office. Tony, initially worked as a detentions deputy then going on to the patrol division. Tony also served on the Sheriff’s S.W.A.T. team as a team member and as the County’s Bomb Squad technician. Tony was promoted to investigator and served as an undercover narcotics officer with the Medal of Honor law enforcement’s highest award. During this time, Tony earned the Medal of Honor law enforcement’s highest award. Tony is now a NRA certified pistol instructor as well as an NRA certified Range Safety Officer. Tony is a highly-decorated veteran and police officer who firmly believes in your right to protect yourself and your family. Tony understands different people have unique needs and will respect your needs, and address any concerns you may have. Tony is a patient instructor who will take the class at your pace.
